Description
Raffaele Calace’s Polonese op. 36 is one of his most admired and frequently performed duo works for mandolin. The Italian mandolin virtuoso combines the stately, dance-like character of the polonaise with lyrical momentum, sparkling energy and brilliant virtuoso passages. The mandolin takes centre stage with elegance and technical refinement, while the guitar provides rhythmic drive and rich harmonic colour.
Edited by Carla Senese and Riccardo Del Prete, this Urtext edition draws on several sources preserved in the Calace archive. The previously published version with piano was carefully compared with the manuscript of the guitar version. Subtle editorial adjustments bring the two versions into closer agreement while preserving the original character of the guitar part. A brilliant and highly effective concert piece for mandolin and guitar.
