Steinway and Musik Hug
Steinway & Sons and Musik Hug – these two traditional companies can look back on a long-standing, fruitful collaboration. Musik Hug is therefore proud to announce: “We have as much experience with Steinway as Steinway & Sons itself.”
1865
Emil Hug establishes a relationship with Steinway & Sons New York and acquires exclusive representation. The partnership has remained uninterrupted to this day, making Musik Hug the oldest active Steinway & Sons dealer in the world!
1880
Founding of the Hamburg Steinway factory on Schanzenstrasse. Since then, Musik Hug has sourced all Steinway grand and upright pianos from Hamburg instead of New York.
1923–1927
Construction of the new Hamburg Steinway factory at Rondenbarg.
1989
Thanks to a unique large order, Musik Hug is able to deliver over 70 new grand and upright pianos to the newly built “Conservatoire de Musique” in Lausanne. This conservatory thus becomes one of the first “All-Steinway Schools.”
1996 & 1997
Musik Hug receives two awards as an outstanding Steinway & Sons dealer: the “Customer Service Lyra” for excellent technical service of customer instruments, quality of in-store instruments, and concert service in leading concert halls; and the “Steinway Sales Performance Lyra,” awarded to dealers who stand out in their markets through notable market share and sales growth. Receiving a Steinway Lyra is akin to winning a “Steinway Oscar”: It honors those dealers who embody the company founder’s motto “to build the best possible piano” and put it into practice. This requires not only proper product presentation, but also strategic and creative market development, excellent service, and strong relationships with artists, concert venues, and institutions.
1999
Musik Hug opens the first Steinway Hall in Switzerland in Lausanne, making it the fifth worldwide alongside those in New York, London, Hamburg, and Vienna.
2003
On March 5, Steinway & Sons celebrates its 150th anniversary. Celebrations are held worldwide, culminating in the Steinway-initiated concert event of the century, “A Celebration of Music,” in June 2003 at Carnegie Hall in New York. A Musik Hug delegation attends this anniversary event in New York.
Musik Hug opens a Steinway Gallery at its main store on Limmatquai in Zurich, where customers can admire and try out pianos and grand pianos from Steinway & Sons, Boston, and Essex in an exclusive showroom.
2004 & 2006
Musik Hug receives the “Steinway Sales Award” for the highest global sales growth outside the USA.
2007
As a sign of long-standing partnership, three exclusive replicas of the “kitchen grand piano” are produced by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg for Musik Hug’s 200th anniversary.
