Gill Be Still

Be still is a wonderful setting of Psalm 46:10: "Be still and know that I am God." The music begins very calmly a cappella and thus reflects the title. The violin then enters and heads towards a climax with the voices until they slowly become quieter together again. The piece is not long, but is very impressive due to its subtleties and the solo violin part.


It was commissioned for the Scottish Crathie Kirk service in September 2024 and is dedicated to King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (William and Catherine).
