Servais Six Romances & Prélude op posth

Description
Six Romances and a Prélude show Joseph Servais from his melodic-lyrical side: the focus is on vocal lines and a romantic mood, which is carried by the cello and finely supported by the piano. The Romance in A minor is particularly impressive with its nostalgic character, while the Prélude in A minor creates an exciting contrast as a perpetuum mobile with flowing movement and virtuoso energy.
About the composer:
Joseph Servais was awarded first prize for cello at the conservatory in 1866 in his father's class. In the same year, he accompanied his father to Russia. A year later, he performed for the King of Portugal. He later traveled to France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.
From 1868-70 he was cello soloist in the Grand Duke's orchestra in Weimar. In 1872 he also became a cello teacher at the Brussels Conservatory. Together with the pianist Louis Brassin and the violinist Henry Vieuxtemps, he founded the chamber music concerts at the Brussels Cercle Artistique. Henri Vieuxtemps dedicated his two cello concertos to him, which they played as world premieres.
