The renowned Sunday Telegraph newspaper described the first generation of the R1 as 'The Aston Martin of DAB radios. This statement was both high praise and an incentive for Ruark Audio to continue producing high quality products in the future. All Ruark Audio products should radiate an unmistakable identity and become modern classics.

After 17 years, we are delighted with this 5th generation of the R1. As with all R1s, the design is stylish, a timeless classic, reinterpreted for discerning, design-oriented customers who value good sound and good operation. With the new R1S, the essentials of the original design remain unchanged. The clear, no-frills shape and the patented, easy-to-use Roto Dial control panel also characterize the identity of the new R1S. The handcrafted speaker cover in walnut (Fusion version) adds a new accent. The filigree and beautifully crafted speaker cover supports the modern yet classic, timeless and elegant design of the new R1S.

The R1S now has a powerful amplifier that is used with the new NS+ speaker developed by Ruark Audio itself, which is also used in the R2, R3 and R5. Thanks to the interaction of the analog A/B amplifier and the new speaker, the unique Ruark Audio sound is created, which sounds pleasantly warm and precise. All buttons are large, clearly arranged and reduced to the bare essentials. The large button in the middle controls the volume. The large round button can also be used to conveniently control the entire menu and the alarms. The operation of the remaining buttons, which are clearly arranged around the central round knob, is very simple and intuitive. It is possible to store 8 DAB and 8 FM stations on the preset button for quick recall.

The new, extra-large TFT color display is razor-sharp. It clearly shows the time, alarm and program information, including stations and album covers. The display is always perfectly legible from any viewing angle - even from a greater distance. The display can be dimmed individually according to requirements and separately in ON and standby mode. The R1S now even has an integrated light sensor that automatically adjusts the display to the current ambient lighting. The latest technology is installed inside the R1S. The latest generation Internet radio/DAB+/ FM tuner from Frontier Silicon always guarantees the best reception. It also supports the most important streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer. Podcasts are now also possible thanks to Internet Radio. Thanks to the first-class Bluetooth 5.0, music can also be received in the highest quality from a smartphone or tablet.

The R1S also has a modern USB-C port with play and charge function (e.g. cell phone can be charged directly). As a further option, additional devices can be connected at the rear via a 3.5mm Line In with cable.
The new large 3.5-inch full-range speaker is specially produced for Ruark Audio and guarantees the highest audio quality from a compact housing with clear treble and precise bass. Thanks to the built-in equalizer, the sound can be adjusted exactly to personal taste.

The R1S has two alarms with many new functions that leave nothing to be desired. The duration of the alarm can now be set and the radio station can be selected individually. The alarm can now be set daily, Mon-Fri, Sat-Sun or just once. The volume of the alarm can also be set (music starts at 0 and slowly increases up to the set volume).

The new R1S is also environmentally friendly, with stand-by consumption of less than 0.5 watts and a power consumption of only approx. 8 watts during operation.

Many of our customers wanted a portable radio from Ruark Audio. With the new R1S, this is possible with little effort. You can upgrade your R1S with the new 'BackPack MK3' and you will be independent of electricity for over 10 hours and can enjoy excellent sound on the terrace or at a picnic. The design of the 'BackPack MK3' breaks new ground by not placing the batteries inside the housing, which inevitably leads to a large loss of volume and thus to audibly poorer sound quality. Thanks to the rechargeable BackPack, which is attached to the outside of the housing to save space, the excellent sound can now also be enjoyed portably.

The R1S now also has a remote control. Now you can conveniently operate all functions from a distance. In addition, the remote control has 4 station presets with direct selection of your favorite radio stations (4 Internet / 4 DAB+ / 4 FM). Thanks to the Undok app, the R1S can also be conveniently operated via smartphone. With these many technological improvements, the new R1S is the best R1 ever - and very well equipped for the future in all respects.
